Shrimp Welfare Trained: Foundation Course

Why Take This Course? 

This course is for shrimp producer companies, processing companies and retailers that are starting their welfare journey and want to join the Shrimp Welfare Badges program. It supports teams in understanding what shrimp welfare is and how to apply welfare indicators in daily farm management. Learners gain the practical skills needed to recognise, score and improve welfare indicators, preparing the company to qualify for the Shrimp Welfare Trained Badge. 

Can Individuals Take This Course?

This course is designed for shrimp companies aiming to get the Shrimp Welfare Badges. If you are a student, veterinarian, consultant or an individual interested in shrimp welfare, we recommend completing the free FAI Academy Shrimp Welfare Indicators course, which covers most of the core concepts included here.

New Skills 

• Recognise that welfare is not the same as health 

• Explain the whiteleg shrimp’s life cycle 

• Identify welfare indicators specific to the whiteleg shrimp 

• Identify what good environmental welfare looks like 

• Score welfare indicators specific to the whiteleg shrimp

How the Course Works 

• Fully selfpaced online course 

• Teams can start anytime and learn at their own speed 

• Recommended duration: 1 hour per week for 4 weeks

• Note: this course is optimised for mobile 

Assessment 

• Final quiz with multiplechoice questions 

• Passing score: 100% 

• Multiple attempts 

Certificate and Badges 

• Each team member receives a certificate upon course completion 

• Certificate appears in Achievements 

• Valid for 12 months 

• Once all team members finish the course, the company receives the Shrimp Welfare Trained Badge
